Does my phone/wireless carrier support WAP downloads?
You can check out if Pix2Fone service is available on your cell phone/wireless carrier by opening
test.pix2fone.com
address in the cell phone's browser. You will be prompted to download a test picture. Make sure you are able to actually save it on your phone. With some carriers you might "see" the picture while online but can't "save" it and use on your phone. Note: The test picture is not sized specifically for your cell phone. Its only purpose is to test the phone's ability to download and save pictures via WAP connection. We recommend to check it out before installing the Pix2Fone browser extension.
Sadly, there are a few wireless carriers who restrict your WAP access and block any WAP downloads from sites other than their own. Even if your handset is technically able to download images, you may get some vague errors like "406: Not acceptable" etc. In particular, Verizon Wireless, Alltel, U.S. Cellular in the U.S. and Telus Mobility in Canada are notorious for this kind of "protection". If you are a subscriber of one of these wireless carriers, - we're sorry, your WAP service is seriously limited.
On a side note, we don't think the wireless carriers have the right to decide what WAP content is "appropriate" for you. As someone put it, "you bought the phone, you own it. When you buy a computer you want to run and install any software you want on it - not just which Microsoft gives you permission for, - or visit Micsrosoft approved sites only."
If you suspect your wireless carrier is restricting your WAP access, please let us know.
